In the world of aviation, every flight represents a journey through the skies and a story of growth, dedication, and dreams coming to life. One such inspiring journey is that of WO1 Patrick Moore, whose path from a young cadet to an accomplished pilot has been shaped by support and hard work.
Discovering a Passion
For Lance and Cindy Moore, the journey began with Patrick’s childhood fascination in airplanes. “We had no idea about cadets, just that Patrick had an interest in airplanes from a young age,” they shared. Their connection to the cadet program started through Capt. Hills, who encouraged Patrick to join after they met during hockey practice years ago.
Patrick Moore, known to us as WO1 Moore, officially joined Air Cadets in February 2020, shortly before the world shut down due to COVID-19. Despite the halt in in-person gatherings, the squadron engaged cadets through online classes and activities on platforms like Zoom. “The squadron really did everything it could to keep the cadets engaged,” said Lance.
A Leap into the Skies
In April 2024, Patrick bought his first car—a five-speed stick shift—and his father, Lance, became his instructor, guiding Patrick with his “calm” voice. Unbelievably, just four months later, it was his confident voice leading us through prechecks as we lifted off into the sky,” Lance reflected, amazed by his son’s remarkable transformation in just a few months.
Cindy admits being nervous about flying in a small plane with her teenage son as the pilot but trusted him completely. “Patrick took me flying on Thanksgiving, and I was impressed with his professionalism and how mature he sounded on the radio. That flight was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.”

WO1 Moore’s story
At the age of 13, Patrick embarked on a journey that would shape his future in unimaginable ways: he joined the 205 Collishaw Air Cadets. His adventure included two years of summer camp in aviation in Cold Lake, Alberta, which provided him with a solid foundation in aviation knowledge. Over the next year, he engaged in both online and in-person ground school, dove into rigorous studies, wrote a qualifying exam, and faced a review board—all steps necessary to prepare for a challenging future ahead.
In summer 2024, he started an intensive seven-week power pilot course, a pivotal moment in his journey. The highlight was his first solo flight. “That was definitely a big one,” he recalls. Taking off alone for the first time was stressful, especially because he had to complete 15 hours of solo flying.
“The flight exam was the most challenging part of my training,” WO1 Moore admits. Sitting in a cramped cockpit with an examiner for an hour while being quizzed on every possible scenario felt daunting. Despite the challenges, he emerged successful and now holds a private pilot license, allowing him to fly planes for leisure.
Looking ahead, WO1 Moore hopes to study physics, astronomy, or astrophysics at university and eventually join the Air Force, combining his love for aviation with a desire to serve.

Gratitude for the Journey
As they reflect on Patrick’s journey, Lance and Cindy express immense pride in their son’s accomplishments. “I am incredibly proud of the hard work he has put into making his dream of flying a reality,” Cindy remarked. The squadron’s support has been instrumental in fostering a community that boosted Patrick’s confidence.
To All Who Dare to Dream…
WO1 Moore’s journey in aviation is a testament to the power of mentorship, passion, and determination. From a young boy fascinated by planes to a skilled pilot ready to take to the skies, his story is an inspiration to all who dare to dream. As he continues his journey, we can only imagine the heights he will soar too next.
